Regarding the new Torchwood series.

With the new Torchwood series about to air on Starz later today, I felt it was time I came to a decision about whether I'm going to watch.

And the answer is no.

There are various reasons why I'm not, but basically it comes down to I'm not excited by it, and I have limited free time, so I'm not wasting that time watching something that I'm not interested in.

I know some people on my flist are looking forward to it, others really, really aren't, and a few probably aren't fans of any Torchwood series.

I'm not going to harsh the squee of those who are going to be watching, they have every right to be happy about a new series. But I won't be commenting on squee posts - it would, after all, be a bit silly to comment on something that I'm not watching.

I'm also not going to be posting rants about what is wrong with Torchwood: Miracle Day. Because, well I'm not watching it, so I don't know what wrong/right/ridiculous/fantastic etc about it.

I will be listening to the radio plays as it's probably the last of Old Torchwood that we're going to get. I'm not going to be able to listen to them live though, because of work, but I okay with getting spoiled for those.

So what does this mean for me writing Torchwood fic? It means everything will go on as it has done. I'll keep writing series 1,2 and CoE fix-its, I'll still be there trying to be an organised mod for [livejournal.com profile] tw_classic

the more I read about it, the less interested I am ... the stunt-casting, gruesome special effects and political intrigue do nothing for me, other than make me sad ...

I am cautiously excited about the radio plays, for the same reasons you give ...

and as for fic, I, too, shall persevere with pre-COE fic and hope somebody keeps reading them ...

maybe I shoudl be posting on TW-Classic ... not sure where epic-proportions will be going now, most of those who set it up have drifted away ...

I'm hopeful about the radioplays and a final piece of canon Jack/Ianto, as for MD I love Jack and for that reason I have a friend who is going to watch it tell me all about it when it's done, if certain things happen and other things absolutely do not, I'll watch

I still don't know if I'm going to watch MD. I think I will give it a try if Rhys survives.
I am really looking forward to the radioplays, maybe a bit too much. I hope I'm not going to be disappointed. We will see.

Please keep writing! Your stories are great. I wasn't going to watch MD, but our cable co offered it for free, and I did watch it. I'm glad I did, because now I know it's bad beyond expectations (and I had anticipated it being really really bad). It's not just a bad Torchwood remake, it's bad tv. It's cliched, Americanized, and the plot and actions are straight out of the most superficial parts of the 80's. Plot holes as big as the ones in COE, impossible action (Jack and a CIA agent jump out of a 5th floor window into a foot of water and suffer nothing more than bruises. Gwen and Rhys have no visible source of income but live in a nice farmhouse on the water (maybe she tapped into TW's funds? Nah, she's not that smart). And we're supposed to believe that two years after COE, the UK government is still trying to find her and kill her. If they'd wanted to kill her, they would have right after COE, and if they'd wanted to find her it would have taken them 5 minutes.

One of the main characters in the series is a guy who raped and killed a 12 year old and blamed it on the girl because "she didn't run fast enough." And from what I've read, he's not going to be a villian. The main CIA guy is an arrogant jerk. Andy once again leads the authorities to Gwen and Jack.

I will say that Bill Pullman is marvelous -- he does evil and creepy just by a tiny facial gesture. And Gwen looks old (sorry, but I've never forgiven Eve Myles for that mollycoddling remark). Rhys is adorable (but if anyone talked to me the way Gwen talks to him, there would be words. Yep, she's still a witch like she was.)

I'm glad I watched it so I know I'm not missing anything by not watching any more.

Sorry this is so long, guess I needed to vent to other TW fan
