Regarding the new Torchwood series.
With the new Torchwood series about to air on Starz later today, I felt it was time I came to a decision about whether I'm going to watch.
And the answer is no.
There are various reasons why I'm not, but basically it comes down to I'm not excited by it, and I have limited free time, so I'm not wasting that time watching something that I'm not interested in.
I know some people on my flist are looking forward to it, others really, really aren't, and a few probably aren't fans of any Torchwood series.
I'm not going to harsh the squee of those who are going to be watching, they have every right to be happy about a new series. But I won't be commenting on squee posts - it would, after all, be a bit silly to comment on something that I'm not watching.
I'm also not going to be posting rants about what is wrong with Torchwood: Miracle Day. Because, well I'm not watching it, so I don't know what wrong/right/ridiculous/fantastic etc about it.
I will be listening to the radio plays as it's probably the last of Old Torchwood that we're going to get. I'm not going to be able to listen to them live though, because of work, but I okay with getting spoiled for those.
So what does this mean for me writing Torchwood fic? It means everything will go on as it has done. I'll keep writing series 1,2 and CoE fix-its, I'll still be there trying to be an organised mod for

I am cautiously excited about the radio plays, for the same reasons you give ...
and as for fic, I, too, shall persevere with pre-COE fic and hope somebody keeps reading them ...

There are still a lot of people in the fandom though who are still reading and writing fic for the first two series. I might have to do another round of promoting
I'll be putting a live listen along/squee post up on TW-classic for the new radio plays, as although they are post Exit Wounds, the generally consensus on the comm has been that anything up to just before CoE is fair game.
I'm thinking maybe later in the year having a Classic Torchwood bigbang running from tw-classic. I know there's the Ianto specific one and the main Torchwood one running at the moment (I also know that some writers aren't going to be doing the main Torchwood on due to the site's new layout, because it uses the Starz Miracle Day earth-bomb logo)
I'll put up a poll to gauge interest, and potentially run from about the October (when the other 2 BBs are posting so the writers have finished), maybe starting sign-ups on the 22nd Oct for the 5th anniversary of Torchwood starting.

I am really looking forward to the radioplays, maybe a bit too much. I hope I'm not going to be disappointed. We will see.

One of the main characters in the series is a guy who raped and killed a 12 year old and blamed it on the girl because "she didn't run fast enough." And from what I've read, he's not going to be a villian. The main CIA guy is an arrogant jerk. Andy once again leads the authorities to Gwen and Jack.
I will say that Bill Pullman is marvelous -- he does evil and creepy just by a tiny facial gesture. And Gwen looks old (sorry, but I've never forgiven Eve Myles for that mollycoddling remark). Rhys is adorable (but if anyone talked to me the way Gwen talks to him, there would be words. Yep, she's still a witch like she was.)
I'm glad I watched it so I know I'm not missing anything by not watching any more.
Sorry this is so long, guess I needed to vent to other TW fan
