Yet another punctuation question.

Can't you just tell my Tardis-bigbang fic is at the editing/beta reading stage :)

Question this time is about capitalisation in dialogue. I had always thought it was the second one that was right, however I've been told by somebody else that it's the first one that is the correct one. Does anybody know which one of us is correct?


1.  Turning to Ianto, Andy asks, “do you think that the aliens have taken everybody away? Or just the people in Cardiff?”

or

2.  Turning to Ianto, Andy asks, “Do you think that the aliens have taken everybody away? Or just the people in Cardiff?”

A question on sex in fic - what do people think?

After I've finished my tardis_bigbang fic (not long to go now) I will be signing up for kink_bingo 

Or maybe not. As one thing in their FAQ's puzzles me.

Q: Do my stories/art/vids have to be safe/sane/consensual?

Basically they say that all the kinks they use can be written as Safe, Sane, Consensual (SSC) or Risk Aware Consenual Kink (Rack)
It goes on to say that some kinks are not writable as SSC at all (barebacking etc.)

This is where I disagree (although I've asked for clarification of just what they are calling barebacking*) I don't see why unprotected sex between two or more consenting adults should automatically be considered something less than safe or sane.  I mean what about historical settings where condoms etc where not available/invented yet?

If the reply I get is that it only refers to m/m, I shall be p*ssed off at the double standards of what I'd looked like a fun comm to be a part of.  

What do people think?  should fic that contains unprotected sex need additional warnings as it's not SSC? or do you think that unprotected sex can still be SSC? or do you have any other opinion on this?

* because the broadest definition of it is any form of unprotected penetrative sex.

We're trying to avoid gender-specific terms, so we're using "barebacking" to describe M/F, M/M, and F/F intentionally unprotected sex. Because intentionally unprotected sex in any of those forms involves an increased risk of STD transmission, most sources we've seen describe barebacking as risk-aware consensual kink (RACK), rather than safe-sane-consensual (SSC). We certainly aren't intending to divide M/M barebacking from M/F barebacking (and you can write M/F barebacking for the category).

In historical settings where condoms wouldn't have been available, it's hard to imagine barebacking as a fetish -- there wouldn't be any erotic charge from not using a condom if there were not condoms!

I still disagree that all unprotected sex is automatically not SSC, especially when it is inside a long term relationship. For example I really can't think of m/f having unprotected sex so they can have baby as Risk Aware Consensual Kink.
