The spring rain has stopped, but there are no guards on the gate, as Di Feijing approaches Six Half Hall, only an old servant sweeping the steps. Blossom falls to cover them like snow, petals caught on the breeze drift like ghosts of all those who have gone.

Di Feijing has wondered how it will feel to return. The thought of it, amongst other things, keeping him awake at night of the journey back. Even now, standing on the steps, he finds he doesn't know.

The weather clears in two days as Qi Shaoshang had thought it might, and as the morning of the second day arrives he makes ready to leave.

While Di Feijing knew the day had to come, he finds himself feeling a little lost, even rather melancholy about how things will be from now on. The lack of plans of his own, the directionlessness of it all, of a future, seemingly without purpose, feels like an increasingly heavy weight.

Not that he will admit that to anyone. Not that he will even permit them to guess.

It takes two more days for Di Feijing to recover sufficiently to be able to stay awake long enough to do much more than eat and drink. Not that he feels well yet or even particularly well rested despite having been barely been awake. The breathlessness is easing however, and despite the initial pain and blood loss, the wound troubles him far less than his neck had when that had first been injured.

For the most part his sleep has been dreamless or at least has nothing he can remember on waking. Twice though he has woken to dreams to vivid to ignore.

The first time he hadn't woken Qi Shaoshang, whose bed is on the opposite side of the room they are sharing. Only fragments of the nightmare remained once he had startled awake, just the vague and fading impression of something with too much blood and death.

( He's seen a lot of both of those. Been the cause of it too. He doubts anyone in the Jianghu has gone through life without experiencing such dreams on occasion either. )

Something a bit different, well it's still H/C and for a Cdrama, but it's not MLC (yes I am still working on that last part of Before the Dawn) This is for Heroes (2022) and is Di Feijing canon divergent thing. I'll post it here are 3 shortish parts over the next couple of days. Then once it's done I’ll put it on ao3.

The Fei character in Di Feijing's name is the same as in Di Feisheng, but the Di character is a different one.

There is no shelter here, but then he has never taken the easy path. A faint, weary smile forms on Di Feijing's icy, bloody stained lips. Unable to go on, he sinks to his knees beneath the bare trees.

He'd never expected to survive his fight with Fang Yingkan. That he has managed to blind him, leaving him defenceless and wounded in this wilderness will have to be revenge enough. The vile young marquis will never harm another. He is content to let him wander in pain and fear before the ice and snow claim him.

He presses a hand against the wound in his side. There is no warm welling up of blood now - the bitter cold has stopped the bleeding. Perhaps if he'd reached safety or if someone was searching for him there might have been a slimmest chance of survival.

There is no one coming this time. It had been a miracle that Lei Sun and his wife had found him on that snowy night all those years ago.

Fate it seems cannot be outrun, not in the end.

Tired, barely feeling the cold around him, Di Feijing closes his eyes, breath slowing, barely misting in the icy air.

( Someone is shaking him, one hand on his shoulder, the other holding his hand. The voice is familiar, although in his disorientated state Di Feijing can't bring whose it is to mind. )

Okay didn’t expect to be typing up some random Lan Xichen meta type stuff this evening on my phone, but here I am writing about lxc trying to stay calm and do the right thing when everything around him is falling apart.

Sort of prompted by screencap showing where when things were going wrong - such as in Guanyin temple, LXC just sits down and meditates, like he is just so chill about it all. And a few people were saying that it was odd or silly or useless.
( Basically he's going ‘things are awful, but I can’t panic about it, I’m not allowed to panic about it, because if I do that will make it worse and I need to make this better somehow’ )

Meta: Nie Mingjue

Nie Mingjue thoughts, previously posted on Tumblr Feb 2024

It feels like so many people forget how young Nie Mingjue was. He was only old 6 years older than Nie Huaisang.

Which makes Nie Mingjue, Chifeng-Zun, who’s a well established leader in combat, all of 23/24 years old at the start of the Sunshot Campaign, and barely/maybe not even 30 at his death.

It’s so easy to see him as being of an equal age to the other sect leaders of the time - Wen Rouhan, Jin Guangshan, Jiang Fengmian, Lan Qiren (standing in for Qingheng-Jun) when he’s basically the same age their kids.

He probably around the same age as Wen Xu. He’s only 3 or so years older than Lan Xichen, about 2 or 3 older than Jiang Yanli.

In his early 20’s he had also been a sect leader for nearly a decade.
( NMJ has such a rigid view of things and of right and wrong. Childishly simple seems an unfair way of putting it, but he was a child when he had to lead. )

Going to attept to post here more regularly. So here is some fic for Some Sentences Sunday - and it is still actually Sunday here for a whole five more minutes.

So more from Before the Dawn. This is from right at the start of the next part. I'm hoping to have it posted around mid week

In the end Fang Duobing is gone for less than an hour before returning. He looks a little too pale and his eyes are red from the hurt and angry tears he's shed, but there is a quiet determination in them. Even if he has to hear all those hurtful things again he will.

Sitting at the table, Li Lianhua hasn't moved, his shoulder still leaning against Di Feisheng who hasn't found the need to move away either. His breathing has returned to normal now, but Li Lianhua can still see a lingering tension about him. Whatever fears or feelings he has are being suppressed by sheer force of will.

There is clear relief in his eyes as he turns to see Fang Duobing letting himself back in. All the same he isn't in any mood for further discussions or maybe he fears Li Lianhua denying what he considers already agreed. Before anyone else has a chance to say anything, Di Feisheng says, "He going to try."

Something like panic wells up, and Li Lianhua wants to tell them that it wasn't like that. It was a misunderstanding. He hasn't decided yet. He should say something. He should-

Fang Duobing closes the remaining distance between them in an instant. Wrapping his arms around them both, he hugs them tight, like he's never wants to let go.

Summary:

Fang Duobing arrives at the beach more out of desperation rather than any real desire to see Li Lianhua and Di Feisheng fight each other.

How could Li Lianhua even fight now? Unless somehow after he’d run off he’d performed some astounding feat of healing that would finally make his title of Miracle Doctor accurate. It’s a fragile hope that he clings to, unwilling to abandon it while there is even the slightest chance it might be true.
