I was thinking that Jack didn't know about the connection either. He had a brief affair with a woman with the surname Parry over a hundred years ago, who quite possibly didn't want anything to do with him afterward, then he was out in India by 1909 and presumably off fighting in WW1 shortly after that and he lost track of her and the child.
He's going to be as shocked as Gwen when he finds out and very very relieved that they didn't do anything more than a little bit of flirting.
I have should probably put something to say that this is set in the later half of series 2 after Something Borrow where the Jack Gwen flirting seems to have pretty much disappeared from the show.
