Just in case the rumours that Livejournal, because it’s servers are in Russia, might no longer be accessible I have backed up all the Torchwood comms that I ran here on Dreamwidth.

Torchwood classic can be found on dreamwidth as tw_classic
Torchwood classic Big Bang can’t be found as tw_classic_bb
Torchwood las (last author standing writing contest) at tw_las

the imports cover what was posted to the comms, including comments. So if the fic/meta/whatever was posted directly into the comm is is there as part of the import. If the entry on the comm was a link to a persons Fic/art/meta that link will continue to work as long as the place it is linking to is still available.

I know a lot of us here started out on Livejournal, 10, 15, even 20 years ago, and LJ was were I first properly got into fandom back in 2006.  Watching the Torchwood fandom and its communities grow and grow, posting my first fic to be shared online when we were still only half way through series 1 airing for the first time.

I know that a lot of you will be aware that back in 2016 LJ was purchased by a company based in Russia, and that the following year the servers were also move there.

So in light of current events, there is some concern about LJ getting blocked, going down or even ceasing to be.

There is more on it where I've shared this post fromTumblr.

I don't know what will happen.  I don't think any of us do.  Even a month ago, I think few would being thinking that the situation would become as it is now.

So of there are people who you are only in contact with via LJ and who you want to stay in contact with it might be worth talking to them now  and finding out they are on any other platforms.

A lot of people migrated journal here, a lot of people backed up fic to AO3 after the events of Strike Through and Bold Through, but not everything.  If there is fic there or meta anything you can't bear to lose saving copies now might be something to consider.

I'm not really around LJ anymore, I'm trying to use my DW a bit more, but I'm primarily found on Twitter and AO3 these days.

But it was my first fandom home, and to paraphrase a certain Captain:

Being here, I've seen things I never dreamt I'd see. Met people I never would have known. And I wouldn't change that for the world.

I posted a couple of days ago about the new style Scrapbook that Livejournal is introducing.

Well mine is migrated over the new style now.

So a few things I can tell you about the new style.

Everything is in the album that it was previously in. (Although if I'd uploaded the picture to more than one album it only appears now in the first one it imported to.)

No pictures have been lost in the import.

Tags aren't carried over and there's no way of tagging at present.

Public, friends only and private viewing settings for images are still functioning.

Uploading multiple pictures from your computer is much easier.

Files now have a proper file extention at the end of them like .jpg or .png

All the places I've posted the picures still have working, viewable images.

If you want to see that the new style looks like it's here http://the-silver-sun.livejournal.com/pics/catalog/
http://the-silver-sun.livejournal.com/pics/catalog/

There's only no preview pictures on the front of the albums because I've not set them yet.

All in all not too bad. I'll have to move some of the images from one album to another (but that's mainly because I'd uploaded them to the wrong one in the first place and should have moved them ages ago.). I would have liked them to keep tags, but maybe if enough people ask for them they'll put them back.

This was originally posted by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] emiliglia over on [livejournal.com profile] jim_and_bones.

"As many of you are probably aware, LJ released the option to link your posts/comments to Facebook and/or Twitter, which was probably one of the dumbest things they've ever done since anyone with Twitter seems to already have their LJ friends on it, and then Facebook and LJ are the lines that never, ever cross. Because I, for one, don't need my cousin's 12 year olds to find the mansex I write.

The following line of code, though, doesn't just hide the repost boxes to you like the Greasemonkey code for Firefox going around does. It completely removes the option for everyone viewing your journal or community. I've done it for this comm as well as my personal journal.

1. Go to Journal > Journal Style

2. Go to Customize your theme

3. Go to Custom CSS

4. Copy and paste this-

.b-repost-item {display:none}

into the Custom stylesheet

5. Save changes

Now not only can you not crosspost comments, but anyone viewing your account can't either. This doesn't get rid of the reposting option when you're making a new entry, but at least that one's easy to avoid."

It is as easy as that! When I did it to mine, the check boxes could no longer be ticked. I assume thats how it's meant to work!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've just done this and it does work.
