Playing catch up again with the fic meme. So here's days 10 to 14.
10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
There are very few pairings in the fandoms that I'm in that I would says are outside my comfort zone. (Okay there are something that I'm not likely to write – like Suzie/Weevil strap-on pwp ( I think I hate my brain right now for even coming up with that)
There are some that I'm unlikely to ever write, like Jack/Gwen or Danny/Connor, but I think that it's not so much that I couldn't write them, I probably could, but as I have no interest in writing them I'm not ever likely to find out.
Of pairings that interest me, but I've never got round to writing Suzie/Tosh is probably the one that I'd most like to have a go at (yes, there is a plot bunny, it is with all the rest of the plot bunnies and they are breeding... like well rabbits for want of a better term,)
11 – Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
I suppose that much of what I write has elements of hurt/comfort in it, with some character study type stuff too. Also plotty fic, and kinky fic. The kink fics always start out as pwp and then character study stuff always gets in too, and usually I end up more interested in why the characters are doing what they are doing with each other than just the act of doing it.
It's kind of hard sometimes to actually figure out what you write, so if anybody can think of some genre that I write in that I've not said let me know.
12 – Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favourite book or movie but set in a different fandom?
No. I'm not every ruling it out, but as yet there's not been anything that has caught my attention to do it.
13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?
Probably a mixture of the two, or maybe selective canon would be a better description, as in if canon goes a different way I'll write AU/fix-it from that point on.
I don't think fanfic has exactly changed how I see the source material, but it has made certain episodes and characters more interesting to me that they would have been just from canon alone.
14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I've written pretty much all ratings from G to NC17, and am comfortable writing in all of them – do like writing kink fic after all.
But just because I can write nc17 rated fic doesn't mean it surprises me that I can also write G rated fic too. Fic turns out to be whatever rating it needs, I rarely have an idea of what the finished rating will be until I've planned the fic out and have got at least the first chapter done.
Although fortunately for people reading my multi part fics the rating part of it is always decided before the first part is posted.
