I think that maybe people felt the need to either fix CoE, and there were some great fix its, or as you say to give them a happy ending.
Suzie/Owen and Owen/Tosh work for me because they are suggested by canon. I think we saw so little of Suzie that there's a lot of scope anyhow for her if it's pre S1. I also think the pairings written either pre S1, or or during the Year that Never was, that sort of thing, work because it's a period we don't know. I like your AU TKKS idea. I also do really like gen fics or case fics as long as the canon pairings are in the background, or it's pre S1 or AU. Anyhow I'll go back and see what I haven't read in your stuff, and I really look forward to how this one plays out.
