It looks like this is happening pretty soon. What I'm going to do it back up everything I've got on scrapbook, and ask to be one of the early adopters. I'll tell you what it's like when it's done. The back ups will be done tonight, and with any luck I'll have answer about what the new one is like in the next couple of days.

I've never used the Scrapbook, but for those who do and haven't heard, I'm passing this along.

I'm just going to put out this PSA:

Livejournal Scrapbook is going away and will be replaced by the mysterious "Photo Album". Your 10GB of Paid Member space is now 2GB. If you care, there is an explanation in Russian on the Russian news page. There's also a user-submitted translation.

+ You will no longer have access to your Scrapbook once this goes live.
+ Your images will redirect, but the URL will be different.
+ Unable to tell what will happen to any photos you have that put you over the 2GB limit.
+ Back up your Scrapbook just in case.
+ If you want your photos transferred over now instead of waiting, let them know here.

I don't know what they mean about losing the 10GB of storage space. It has always been 2GB to my knowledge or at least it has for the 5 and a bit years I've had paid membership.

EDIT: There is a 10GB option but that's a paid extra on top of a normal paid account, so I'm not sure how many people that is really going to affect, assuming this does disappear - which is by no means a certainty.

ANOTHER EDIT: I've read through the comment - there are 11 pages of them. For people who have paid extra storage (10GB)and for those on permanent accounts (15GB) those who have already transferred over to the new style scrap book still have all their storage space. It does not disappear.

So basically what this seems to be is that scrapbook will display slightly differently and the image/video etc will end with a .jpg or .mov etc rather than the normal string of letter and numbers.

So while LJ definitely could have announced this better - or you know, at all - nobody seems to be losing any storage space or pictures, and all we're getting is a slightly more up to date looking interface and links that's have the file type in them (like photobucket or flickr does)

Thank you for the further info. As a non-user of Scrapbook at all, I admittedly hadn't done any fact-checking whatsoever.
