Awwwww! It was everything I expected it to be and more! Poor Jack. It's interesting how much power and determination gets set free when you have to help a close friend, though.
This sentence brought tears to my eyes:
Once, Jack thought, he would have been able to sweep over to them, put his arms around them both, giving and receiving comfort in equal measure. Only he didn't feel able. Not anymore.
I have to go to bed now, I'll read the others tomorrow!
