With the new Torchwood series about to air on Starz later today, I felt it was time I came to a decision about whether I'm going to watch.

And the answer is no.

There are various reasons why I'm not, but basically it comes down to I'm not excited by it, and I have limited free time, so I'm not wasting that time watching something that I'm not interested in.

I know some people on my flist are looking forward to it, others really, really aren't, and a few probably aren't fans of any Torchwood series.

I'm not going to harsh the squee of those who are going to be watching, they have every right to be happy about a new series. But I won't be commenting on squee posts - it would, after all, be a bit silly to comment on something that I'm not watching.

I'm also not going to be posting rants about what is wrong with Torchwood: Miracle Day. Because, well I'm not watching it, so I don't know what wrong/right/ridiculous/fantastic etc about it.

I will be listening to the radio plays as it's probably the last of Old Torchwood that we're going to get. I'm not going to be able to listen to them live though, because of work, but I okay with getting spoiled for those.

So what does this mean for me writing Torchwood fic? It means everything will go on as it has done. I'll keep writing series 1,2 and CoE fix-its, I'll still be there trying to be an organised mod for [livejournal.com profile] tw_classic

I think that dubious honour would have to go the supervisor of one of the archaeological sites I worked on.

He never helped dig the site, and had ridiculous expectation of what we could actually get done in a day.

One such thing was bailing out the flooded excavation. It was a heavy clay soil site, and the trenches were about 5x5m square and about 1m deep, and were filled to the top with water.
He told us to bail them out, while it was still pouring down in rain. The ground was saturated and you could see the water you'd bailed out running back across the field and into the trenches. He refused to believe that it wouldn't work.

He watched us do this for three hours from inside his nice dry portacabin.
