Prompt: Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian- Gender
Words: 520
Rating: general - nothing more than fully clothed kissing, before it ends - although it’s clear what they are about to do.
Contains: drinking, Wei Wuxian sort of wishing he was able to have a baby. Sort of gender/sexuality talk. Fade out sex
Wei Wuxian’s drinking has reached the philosophical stage. Sprawled loose limbed on the floor beside Lan Wangji, who is working on a musical text, he says, “Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a girl instead?”
Lan Wangji places down his brush carefully. “No, have you?”
“Sometimes. I mean it would have made some things harder, a lot harder really, but…” he sighs and drinks some more.
Lan Wangji waits for more words that do not come. Finally he says, “Wei Ying, whatever you need to say, I will listen.”
“I know I said that day in Yiling that I had been the one to birth a-Yuan, but I was joking. You know that, right?”
“I am aware of how babies are made, Wei Ying. Even back then.”
“I just wish sometimes that it could have been true. That I could do that.” He sighs again, and puts the bottle aside. “I’ve taken so many lives, Lan Zhan, don’t try to tell me I haven’t. It’s just it would be nice to make a new one, to feel it growing, to give you a family.”
“I have you and Sizhui, brother and uncle. We are already a family.” He takes the abandoned bottle and places it out of Wei Wuxian’s reach on the table.
“What if Mo Xuanyu had been a girl, if I’d come back like that. Would you still have wanted me?”
“I will always want Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji draws him close. “How you are does not matter to me.”
“But if you had to choose, how would you really want me to be?”
“I want you in every way that you can be.”
“Lan Zhan, as sweet as that is that’s no answer.”
Lan Wangji kisses him, buying time before he needs to reply. Finally, with something like hesitancy creeping into his voice, he says, “I have not ever desired to be a woman, nor to take one as a wife. Yet if that was how Wei Ying was returned to me, I would. Wei Ying in any form, in any life, is the only one for me.”
“Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian looks at him, eyes shining wetly. “How can you say such things? My heart can’t take it.”
“It is the truth.” He kisses Wei Wuxian again, before scooping him up in his arms and carrying him to their bed.
Wei Wuxian laughs, but there is still something just a bit fragile on the edges of it. “I would have made such a good wife, Lan Zhan. We would have had so many babies by now. Fat and cute.”
Gripping Wei Wuxian’s slim waist, Lan Wangji presses him down on the covers. “Tonight, if you wish it, I will call you that.”
“You would? For me?”
“Mn, anything for Wei Ying.” He waits, watches the play of emotions across his face and in his eyes. Waits until the familiar teasing smile appears, waits until he is sure this is what his Wei Ying wants and needs and then gives it to him with his whole heart.
