silver_sunQuick update, Work has ok'd me taking the 17th of August off so I will now be able to get to the Cardiff meet up a reasonable time, or as reasonable time as a 5 hour car or 7 hour train journey will allow.
I know it's over three months away but I'm already looking forward to it.
On fan related things, i've now got just over a month to finish my icons for thetw_icons100challenge and I am starting to struggle for idea's now, and i've still got thirty icons to go.
I chose Owen because it would be a challenge, because I didn't neccessarily like his character as much as some of the others. But now, and I don't know if it's due to spending far too much time screen capping him for these icons, but he has become, if not likeable, then at least more understandable and to be honest a have more of a problem with Gwen.
At least Owen makes no excuses for who he is or, for the most part, how he acts.
Ok that post was far longer than I thought it would be, right I'll stop now before I think of anything else to ramble on about.

I was starting to have problems with Gwen at the end of Countrycide, but I think her treatment of Rhys in Combat was appalling. If she is suppose to be the teams link to humanity they're so screwed.
It's not that I don't want to like her, it's that she's making it very hard to do so. It may just be that i've got a real problem with hypocrisy, it's one of the reasons that I stopped watching TS: Voyager, because of Janeway's attitude.
Gwen has the potential to be such as great character, and a likeable one, if only she stops trying so hard to get everybody to like. She also need to decide about Rhys, he's put up with far to much shit from her and either she should try to be something like a propper girlfriend to him or leave him and let him have a chance of a normal life. Honestly though, I hope she realises that Rhys is a good bloke, stops lying to him for the sake of it, and they make a go it.
I know a lot of people dislike Owen for his activities at the start of the show where he was using the alien spray stuff to get women to sleep with him, and that it was liked to him using a date rape drug.
It is never explained quite how this spray works, we see him spray it on himself and the woman who he was talking to go from not interested in him to very interested indeed.
It very much depends in my mind on the effect that the spray has.
If, for example they spray makes Owen appear to be the most attractive person thay have ever seen, but other than that the person is not physically affected, I do not consider it to be as terrible as if the person Owen is chatting up loses their free will and has to do as he says.
I certainly not saying that I in anyway condone what he does, but we seem to find it acceptable and even funny in these deoderant ads, and I'm pretty sure that's the way that Owen see's the spray, as nothing more than a pulling aid.
Given Owen's reaction in Ghost machine to what happend to the young woman by the cannal I thinks it's a pretty clear indication that he didn't see what he was doing with the spray in the same way as a lot of views saw it.
