And people said that the rumour that Saxon will turn out to be the Doctor's son could not possibly be true because that would imply the Doctor had done the deed with somebody and that wouldn't be suitable for a family show.

I didn't think that argument made sense as the first incarnation of the Doctor travelled with his grand-daughter Susan so it was obvious that he'd been with somebody at some point.
Also it's not like RTD shys away from subjects that people think shouldn't be part of a family show.

I mean the girl in the Empty Child turns out to the mother of the Gas Mask Child. She's shown as young when the kid is about four, and even if she looks young for her age, and say she is twenty when the episode is set (which I very much doubt, I don't think she was meant to be anymore than about eighteen) which means she would have been a very young unmarried teenage mother when the child was born.
