About tonights episode.

The producers have made no secret of the fact that this is the last series for Hunt and Co, and that by the end of it all will be revealed. Although they've been pretty darned successful in keeping anything other than speculation about what that resolution is out of the media.

Gene Hunt is the person that ties it together.

Whose was the body that was found in the TV new bulletin that Alex couldn't hear the end of because Gene woke her up? Gene woke her up at 9.06 Jim?'s watch had stopped at that time.

Is it the body of the policeman with the damanged face that she keeps seeing?

And if it is, who is he?

How does Sam Tyler fit into all of this? Why does Gene have a censored file about Sam in his filing cabinet?

The creepy guy from D&C (Jim?) seems to know a lot, mentions it's connected to something that Gene did three years previously. What was that? Tyler has been dead/missing for longer than that, I'm sure. But it doesn't seem like it should be as much as three years since Alex arrived back in the 80's.

Is it connected with what made Gene leave Manchester for London?

It's all very disconnected at the moment and I get the feeling that they are going to keep us guessing until the very end of the show, certainly is Life on Mars is anything to go by.

If I had to make a guess at this point I'd say that Gene was instrumental in some way in Sam's disappearance (being as his body was never recovered from the river,), that there is definitely more going on there than there appears. I hoping that Gene helped Sam fake his own death so that he could go undercover; Gene ans Sam often disagreed, but murder? I just can't see it happening.

I think we're meant to think that the body/policeman with the damaged face is Sam Tyler, but that doesn't make sense, the Policeman is wearing uniform, something that I'm pretty sure we never saw Sam do as he was a DI.

A really out there possibility is that the body/policeman with damaged face is actually that of a much younger Gene Hunt, that everything in LoM and A2A is actually in his mind. Only I'm not sure how that would work.

Maybe the body is supposed to be that of Gene unless Alex finds out a way of saving him.

Anybody make sense of my ramblings ideas about A2A? or have a better idea of what is going on?

Edit:
The burnt? policeman ghost? isn't Sam, paused the image on Iplayer to get a screen cap

Still no clue who he is, but he's definitely not Sam.
