9 – Pairings – For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favourite pairings to write?




I didn’t write enough in the Due South, Highlander and Spooks: Code 9 fandoms to have three pairings for each. So I’ll pick one each for these. Due South – Fraser/original Ray Vecchio. Highlander, Methos/Duncan. Spooks: Code 9, Roc/Charlie.

For Doctor Who I’d have to say 9th Doctor/Jack. I know this is a bit specific, but I just can’t see the 11th romantically at all. And how the 10th Doctor treated Jack really put me off writing them in a relationship. It’s one thing to be a bit freaked out immediately post regeneration and run, it’s kind of understandable.
However the thing that really put me off was the Doctor casually volunteering Jack to go into a room filled with radiation while Jack was dead just having saved people – and that was before we get to the whole ‘you’re wrong I can’t look at you’ thing and disabling Jack’s vortex manipulator when he says he doesn’t want to travel with him.
Honestly it feels like the Doctor only tolerates Jack because he can use him fix things that would get normal mortal people killed, because by Jack doing it it means that he won't have any deaths on his conscience.
The fact that he doesn't seem to care that these death hurt Jack, and that Jack just seems to accept it willingly because he wants and needs the Doctor's approval and acceptance just makes it worse.



For Primeval I’d have to say, Nick/Stephen, Ryan/Stephen and Ryan/Becker (Okay they never met in canon – but that’s not a good enough reason for it not to happen in fic.) if I have to pick just three.

Torchwood is even harder to pick just three for. Jack/Ianto definitely, then Owen/Ianto and Andy/Ianto. But I also like writing Jack/Owen, Andy/Owen. Owen/Tosh is good too, although I’ve not written much of it – it only really being background in The Spaces in Between and Things Lost and Found. I also quite like Tosh/Suize (in an AU where it was the glove making Suzie do what she did – one day I’ll get round to writing it too.)

With all this Torchwood multi-shipping it kind of makes me want to write drabbles for each of the possible combinations of Jack, Ianto, Owen, Tosh, Suzie, Gwen, Rhys and Andy. Only that is an awful lot of drabbles, 27 I think (and now I’m thinking 30 would be a nice round number, so maybe the other three could be all the Torchwood ladies, all the Torchwood men and finally one with everybody.)

I totally agree with you about 10/Jack. 10 was an absolute arse, and Jack is much better off without him.
