Being Human: series 4 starts tonight.
Feb. 5th, 2012 04:40 pmOkay, so series 4 of Being Human starts tonight. I'm looking forward to having back a show that I like to watch.
Russell Tovey has said that this series, 4, will be his last, and given that the new character bios only mention their interactions with Tom and Annie, I'm guessing that he leaves the series early on.
Based on the character bios for this series, and how Tom, Annie and new guy Hal's, don't mention George, I'm leaning towards it happening tonight.
I really would have liked him to have been in longer, but George's story was so tied to Mitchell's that it was perhaps inevitable that his departure from the show wouldn't be that far behind.
George and Mitchell were my favourite characters, although I do like Annie as well. However even with them both gone I'll keep watching.
The new guy from last series, Tom, is likeable, and has a lot of back story/potential that could be interesting to watch. The new, new guy, Hal, I reserve judgement on until I've seen him, but he looked interesting enough in his backstory trailer (although honestly the other guy, Leo, I thought was perhaps even more interesting - but that might be because when it comes down to it I find Werewolves more interesting than Vampires.
The other reason is that the showrunner, Toby Whithouse, understands that the viewers will miss the characters, and he hasn't told them to grow up or words to that effect when Mitchell left the show at the end of last series.
Mitchell got a good ending, that was in keeping with where his character had been heading. It's what the actor wanted as he was going off to film the Hobbit for a couple of years. There really wasn't much more that TW could have done.
I've seen suggestion that they should have written Mitchell character as having been kidnapped or something, so he could come back. But I don't really see that as having been an option, the actor was going to be unavailable for at least 2 years, which is far enough ahead that TW wouldn't even know if they would still be making the show then.
So I'll be sad to see George go, whether it's at the start of this series or at the end of it. But the show will go on, and unless something really drastic happens to the universe that it's set in (say werewolves don't exist any more - just because viewer apparently like vampires more and it's all about the ratings, or suddenly everybody knows about the existence of supernaturals and they all being hunted down by the government - and all the action now focuses the government sanctioned hunters who are now said to be in the right. These are some of the most ridiculous directions that I could think of, these aren't speculation, spoilers or anything that has been said will happen to the show) and I'll keep watching.
