Update on various things.

So I've done the gym induction that I mentioned in my post from about a week ago, and got on okay. It seems that I'm not quite as badly out of shape as I thought I was - frequent lifting of 3ft 5" 3 stone not little any more son has helped with that.
I've joined an online group called fatsecret http://www.fatsecret.co.uk/Default.aspx?pa=mem&id=8248380 (it's a pretty awful name, but the site seems fairly nice) I'm not sure how much I'll use it, but it's got a handy page where you can keep track of the exercise you're doing, so if for nothing else I'll use it for that.
I'm going to aim for getting down to 135lb (9 and half stone or some thing like 61.3kg) by the end of May. So 20lb/9kg in 18 weeks. If I don't get to it, I'm not too bothered. Because at the end of the day I'd rather be fitter than lighter.
So maybe a better way of putting my goal is 1 inch off the chest, 2.5 - 3 inches of the waist and 1 inch of the hips. As my chest measurement is only 34" to begin with and my hips 35" more than an inch of each seems unlike to happen. My waist though is 30" and I know that it can be smaller - just five years ago it was 26" I'm not going to aim for that, but 27- 28" seems do able.
Was intending to write more, but have seen the time and have to get going to get the bus down to the gym. As while walking is exercise, walking three and a half miles in the snow when it's -2c outside doesn't seem like a good plan.
EDIT.
Back from the gym. Really enjoy going - it's the moving and lifting things that I find good - it reminds me of when I was still working as an archaeologist out in the field when I used to spend all day lifting, carrying, digging and pushing wheelbarrows.
I did a 10km bike ride in 25 minutes followed by 25 minutes with weights. I'm not sure how good this is, but the bike ride is quicker than I managed back on Sunday when it took 29 minutes to do 10km.
Will go to the gym again on Sunday and get in a longer workout (more weights mainly as I ran out of time to do the second set tonight) - it's the only day of week when I'm able to go for more than an hour.
