spelling/grammar/missing words type beta request

Would anybody be interested in betaing a short 2k fic? (and it really is 2k - not going to grow to 10k while I'm not looking like my other fics seem to - this is 2k and finished.)

It's mostly a background/reflective sort of piece about Nightingale from River of London. (Yes, I'm writing in another fandom) It has a sort of past/background pairing of Thomas Nightingale/David Mellenby. It's G/PG rated.

Spelling/missing words/ grammar type beta needed. Set pre 1st book in the series you don't really need to know anything about the books beta it, as most of the book stuff doesn't apply yet - the fic takes place between 1945 and 1976. The books are about 2010 onwards.

Not in a massive hurry to get it back, I don't need to post it until mid July.

Unless you've made arrangements privately, it looks like no one has stepped up. I would like to volunteer. I am not a beta, I've only beta'd one brief story by badly knitted, but I am pretty good with language and spelling. Also, if you don't say 'span' when you mean 'spun', I won't have to kill you. Besides, I've never read these books, and something new is always a good thing, right?

Sorry, I've just had somebody who is part of the fandom (as small as it is) offer to beta it for me. I will have other things in this fandom to get beta'd though, as I've perhaps rather foolishly signed up to do ten things (fic, art, icons etc) and post them one a week through from mid July until mid September (when the 5th book in the series is published.)

Trying to work out where it would be possible to mix up span and spun, as they get used entirely differently nowadays (Modern British English - I can't say whether that's true for US, Australia etc.) Like 'He had the attention span of a goldfish' or 'It spun round like a spinning top' It wouldn't make any sense the other way around. (If it was something historical, then there was the use of span as a past tense version spun - like in the saying 'when Adam delved and Even span, who was then the gentleman?' but I can't think that there would be many historical based fics about spinning)

I cannot tell you how many fics I've read with things like, "He span around quickly." Noooooo. Span is reach, not a tense of spin. One of my pet peeves. I always want to email them, but I am not tactful enough to say "You are an idiot!" politely. I have come across some other gems, too. "He has a bad inhabit." is one. I should write a paper, "These words do not mean what you think they mean.", but I think that phrase has already been taken. I will check out the books. Thanks.

Checked out the books on Amazon. Read first two paragraphs of first book. Bought it. I think I'm going to love these. Thanks again.
