Being as Torchwood/Doctor Who/Sarah Jane Adventure all share the same universe, how does what happened in Children of Earth affect them?
I mean SJA is set in the present day, and has kids in it. Problem is CoE is way to dark to really get a mention in what is a kid's show. Maybe just a brief mention in passing? Because there is no way that Sarah Jane wouldn't have noticed what was going on and tried to stop it.
As far as I can see both shows have got to acknowledge the events of CoE or say that it was AU from the rest of the DW universe. Although I don't see how they could do that given what happened in Journey's End.
In DW a lot of the storylines have been tried to present day Earth, all the resent companions have been from the present day. So how does this affect Martha and her family and Donna and her family? because they would have noticed what was going on. And would have tried to contact the Doctor if nothing else.
I know that a lot of us fans are upset at what happened in CoE, and wonder how 4th series could really now be possible and still resemble the show that we liked. I'm pretty much in that situation myself.
But in this spare some consideration for the writers of the other two shows. Because I really hope that Stephen Moffat was fully aware of the plans for CoE, as it's left him with an Earth/DW universe that knows about aliens, and a population who are presumably scared and mistrustful of the government.
If he wasn't made aware, and by now as show runner for Doctor Who he'll have had to commission the scripts for series 5, I think it was a rotten thing to do him and the people producing those scripts.
I won't go into the fact that Moffat created the character of Captain Jack, but all the changes to the character - pretty much irrevocably altering him from who he was in Empty Child/Doctor Dances - have all been done by RTD. I can only hope that Moffat didn't mind.
I suppose none of this matters if RTD is planning some massive reset of everything in the remaining Doctor Who specials - something which isn't impossible, after all he's done the whole reset thing before in Last of the Time Lords.
I don't know what other people think about it or if they have. It's only just occured to me how much what they did in CoE changed the DW universe for the other shows.
I haven't been rude about any of the writers/characters/storylines, and I would hope that anybody commenting on this post would do the same.
